Prompt #2 Accounting ethics

Accounting has its own ethics. Luca Pacioli, the “Father of Accounting”, wrote on accounting ethics in his first book Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni, et proportionalita, published in 1494. And after that time, ethical standards have since then developed through some independent companies, professional organization and government group.

Five principle ethics are "independence, integrity, and objectivity"; "competence and technical standards"; "responsibilities to clients"; "responsibilities to colleagues"; "other responsibilities and practices". Each of these ethics provided guidelines on how a CPA, Certified Public Accountant, should act as a professional.
Those code are very correspond with my own ethics. On the one hand, they are very useful for accountants or auditors to solve the problems when they face the ethical dilemma problems. Even though accountants or auditors can make it easy for the company which cause company loose some illegal benefits, public who relies on the accountant’s reporting.
I am not sure that whether normal people commonly know the ethical guideline about accounting or not but they are very common through the people whose major is accounting. Recent studies indicate that nearly all accounting textbooks touch on ethics in some way. From Wikipedia, in 1993, the first United States center that focused on the study of ethics in the accounting profession opened at State University of New York at Binghamton. Starting in 1999, several U.S. states began requiring ethics classes prior to taking the CPA exam.

People do believe that professionals in accounting follow these ethics and they have no choice. When shareholder make an informed decision like investment, they only can rely the financial statements which is prepared by the accountants heavily.
To be honest, like the most of the visitors for this blog, this is also the first time for me to know more about ethics for accounting. And I found that I am not one hundred percent equal to those ethics, especially for the objectivity part. It is very hard for me to change the first opinion about someone. I had thought a person was very selfish, even we share a lot of thing after we met at the first time. I found I still has a lot of deficiencies. And I should work harder to make me become more suitable to this major, accounting.
